In this elegant context, the installation of the OPTA smart relay has been instrumental in optimizing the consumption of the various utilities within the kitchen, leading to significant energy savings.
Awarded a star by the Michelin Guide since 2015, IYO Restaurant is a place in constant evolution. With a view to improving the concept of energy-saving within the facility, The client Energietechnik – an Italian company that deals with energy-efficient systems – inserted the OPTA programmable logic relay to go in and optimize the consumption of the utilities present in the kitchen environment – mostly energy-intensive utilities – and that are used to generate heat. It is a smart solution that has proven to be extremely effective in rationalizing the consumption of various machines throughout the day.
The choice of using OPTA proved to be largely functional for reading the parameters of different electrical quantities within the room, using Modbus-RS485 port and protocol by querying a 7M.38 Energy meter, also RS485. Specifically, these are the quantities detected in the field: Active Power, Reactive Power, Amperage X L1 / L2 / L3 (three-phase), Voltage X L1 / L2 / L3 (three-phase), Frequency, Maximum Peak Active Power, Average Active Power
Based on the readings received from the Type 7M.38 energy meter, specifically the Active Power and Average Power magnitudes, today OPTA manages and optimizes the contemporaneity factor of utilities, going to switch its contacts and those of the Type 8A.58 expansion module, enabling the control of consents for the activation of ovens, hotplates, fryers, kettles and braising pans
As for data visualization and OPTA control, a dedicated dashboard with dedicated widgets has been created on ARDUINO’s IoT cloud server, accessible by connecting OPTA via RJ45 port in Ethernet LAN. Here, the customer and installer can view and manage the entire system, remotely, with the possibility of utility readings and alerts via icons, target changes for power to be used, and manual forcing for on/off.
The installation of a programmable logic relay such as OPTA brings important advantages such as the great computing power and interoperability of the device, the flexibility of using different protocols (in this case, the Modbus RS485 port with Ethernet LAN network was used), and the possibility of expanding the number of inputs and/or outputs through the appropriate expansion modules, which proved to be a significant added value. Also not to be underestimated is the combination of the Cloud for remote management, which enabled a simple and effective implementation of the IoT dashboard.
The installation of OPTA within IYO Restaurant today ensures an effective optimization system of the main loads for the business and the contemporaneity factor, which results in an important reduction of energy consumption, while keeping the performance of all the machinery used in the kitchen unchanged.
