Finder presents the Type 7E.85 energy meters

A cutting-edge, bi-directional multifunction energy meter for energy consumption management.

NEW PRODUCTS

Finder’s energy meters range has expanded with launch of the Type 7E.85, two bi-directional multifunction models designed for three-phase systems, with or without neutral. These devices stand out for their ability to measure currents up to 10,000 A when used with suitable current transformers (CTs), ensuring exceptional accuracy and precision. MID (Measuring Instruments Directive) certification up to 70°C, in accuracy class 0.5 (C) is a crucial element, ensuring accurate measurements even in difficult operating conditions.

One of the strengths of these devices lies in their communication flexibility, with an integrated Modbus RS485, or M-Bus interface. Both versions are equipped with two S0 outputs, one of which is programmable, allowing for easy integration into energy management and building automation systems. This advanced connectivity enables remote data collection and real-time monitoring, which are essential for detailed power consumption analysis. In addition, the availability of dual or single rate functions makes the Type 7E.85 energy meters particularly suitable for energy contracts with different time bands, optimizing cost management and supporting energy-saving strategies. The backlit LCD display and intuitive navigation via physical keys make these devices easy to configure and read. The programmability of the current transformer scale (CT full scale) adds an additional level of adaptability to different configurations, and MID Class 0.5 (or Class C) certification makes it ideal for applications such as energy billing.

This accuracy class ensures that the meters measure active energy with a maximum permissible error of 0.5%, making it ideal for billing, and for cost allocation in multi-user applications. The ability to operate with current transformers allows the Type 7E.85 energy meters to measure high loads, exceeding the limits of direct-connection meters and making them compatible with large industrial plants. The Modbus RS485 and M-Bus interfaces are standard protocols in industrial automation and building management, facilitating the integration of the meters into SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and BMS (Building Management System) systems, and EMS (Energy Management Systems).

This allows for the centralization of energy data, remote diagnostics, and the automation of consumption-based processes. The two S0 outputs offer additional flexibility for sending pulses proportional to the energy consumed or produced, which can be used for simplified monitoring systems or to activate alarms. The ability to configure dual tariffs directly on the device simplifies the management of complex contracts, allowing users to monitor and optimize power consumption based on the most convenient time slots, a crucial aspect for reducing operating costs. The durable design, with an extended operating temperature range up to 70° C, ensures reliable performance even in industrial environments with high temperatures or significant climatic variations, increasing durability and reducing the need for maintenance.

ENERGY METERS: APPLICATIONS

Energy meters are used in a wide range of sectors, from manufacturing to distribution, and end-used energy consumption.

Examples include energy production from renewable sources, such as solar and wind power installations, and charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs), where the meter ensures accurate energy consumption measurement. In the residential and commercial sector, the Type 7E.85 is ideal for sub-metering consumption in apartment buildings, shopping centres, hotels, campsites, offices, and other multi-user facilities, allowing for the fair distribution of energy costs among individual occupants or tenants. In industry, detailed meter monitoring allows companies to identify inefficiencies, optimize production processes, reduce energy consumption peaks, and implement energy-saving strategies, contributing significantly to operational sustainability and cost reduction. Even in data centres, where energy consumption is extremely high, these meters provide crucial data for monitoring PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and optimizing energy distribution. In general, the use of MID-certified meters with advanced communication features such as Modbus and M-Bus, supports the transition to smarter, more connected energy management system, promoting efficiency, carbon footprint reduction, and regulatory compliance in a wide range of modern applications.
