This is why we are looking for a competent Technical Support Engineer with a desire to progress and develop into a Technical Manager role within a 2-year period in line with internal succession plans.
Main Job Purpose
As our Technical Support Engineer you will support the company’s sales function by providing technical expertise in the company’s products and applications, creating and implementing training and support for customers, colleagues and other stakeholders. Some UK and European travel may be required.
Job Duties
In conjunction with our Technical Manager, you will;
- Take ownership of customer technical issues, whether providing information and education, dealing with product issues received through phone calls, emails, visits, the creation of reports & guides and conducting product testing. You will work closely with our Area Sales Managers to support the sales efforts with technical backup and, when required, through occasional visits to customers.
- Work closely with other Sales and technical colleagues at our Italian headquarters to develop & implement training programs & webinars for our sales team, customers and stakeholders. Work with sales team to impart technical knowledge through training and literature.
- Make positive contributions to the PR/marketing team, writing technical articles, press briefs etc. Develop demonstration kits for exhibitions, training and other uses, supported by marketing and outside agencies where appropriate. Assist with our technical translations into English.
- Develop and implement a vision for the continued improvement of the Technical Department. Contribute ideas and suggestions to support the continued growth of the company.
- Provide commercial awareness by keeping up to date with industry segments applicable to the company’s products and general industry environment through attendance at exhibitions, publications and information in the press. To deliver this, you need to ensure you are fully aware of the full company product offering by maintaining effective links with the main Italian factory, Swedish subsidiary, and the international technical team.
- Maintain our lab to ensure it continues to provide a safe and organised test area.
Person Specification
We are looking for a great communicator who is as passionate about relays as we are. This role necessitates you to be just as happy with working on fault finding and testing, writing reports and technical specifications as you are with meeting customers and answering their queries or running technical training sessions whether face to face or via webinars.
Required Skills:
- Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent.
- Ability to travel within Europe.
- Knowledge of electromechanical & solid-state relays, electronic-based controls and app-based programming.
- Ability to investigate technical issues methodically – both within the lab and with customers.
- Safe wiring skills (from power supplies to switches, LEDs, relays etc).
- Experience with basic electrical test tools (DVM, Power Supplies, Soldering, simple circuits, mains).
- Able to produce technical reports (1 or 2 pages on fault finding and explanations).
- Knowledge and understanding of electrical circuits, principles and theory.
- Proven technical training & presentation skills.
- Ability to work within a team and supporting commercial teams.
- Focused and organised, with excellent time-management.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Capable of working under pressure.
- Open-minded and adaptable towards continuous improvement and change.
- IT tools (excel, web-based etc.) to a good standard.
- Ability to speak Italian would be an advantage but not essential.
